RCL Reflection, Second Sunday of Easter, Year A, April 19, 2020
The message of hope we have to bring is do not be discouraged, realize that even those who walked, talked, and studied with Jesus were temporarily “stuck” in an in-between time and place. We know they didn’t stay there, and neither will we.
Called: Your stewardship of vocation
Revised Common Lectionary Reflection for Proper 8 (13), Third Sunday after Pentecost, Year C, June 30, 2019
What is your calling? Some of us can answer quite readily with a call to ministry, especially if we’re the ones who stand in the pulpit and who preside at the Lord’s Table. But here’s the thing: We all have a call to follow Jesus, to live by the Spirit, and to walk with God. Our work matters. (Photo: eppytx, Creative Commons)
Take Heart & Lean In
Revised Common Lectionary Reflection for the 27th Sunday after Pentecost, Year B, November 18, 2018
Yes, the times are uncertain. Suffering and pain are real. The path forward appears fraught with danger and destruction. In spite of all of this, whether self-inflicted or inflicted upon us, we have Jesus. This is very good news! ((Photo: Gov. Tom Wolf, Creative Commons. Thanks!)
Beyond Unbelief: An Evangelism Lesson from Thomas
RCL reflection, 2nd Sunday of Easter, Year A, April 23, 2017
Like Jesus inviting Thomas to reach out and touch his wounds, we must be willing to invite people into our lives. What they know of Jesus may be only what they see in those who call themselves “Christians.” That means we have both great opportunity and great responsibility, and that my friends is an act of stewardship. Hold Fast! Keep the Faith.
Lectionary Reflection for the 25th Sunday after Pentecost, Year B, November 15, 2015
This week’s lessons encourage us to remember that our great stone edifices and proud prairie worship houses—all lovingly constructed to the glory of God and for the sake of community—will not stand forever. Yet, our Lord tell us to not be alarmed. We are to hold fast and keep the faith. (Photo: Guillermo Viciano, Creative Commons)
No Time for Fear (or Loathing)
Twenty-sixth Sunday after Pentecost Lectionary Reflection, November 18, 2012
In a climate of fear and loathing, how do this week’s lessons speak to us as Christians? What is our response as we walk in the light of God? (Photo © 2010 J. Ronald Lee. Thanks!)
