RCL Reflection for the sixth Sunday of Easter, Year B. May 5, 2024. Jesus continues his metaphor of vine and branches to describe the holy relationship he intends for God’s people. This week’s lection emphasizes love — the fruit we produce when we abide with him. The Rev. Elisabeth Shelton Hartwell explains.
A new song
RCL Reflection, Sixth Sunday of Easter Year B, May 9, 2021
We must remember that all the earth belongs to God—every atom, molecule, droplet of water, and handful of soil—and as such is sacred. This week’s psalm helps us do just that, as well as illumine the other lessons. (Image: Lyre, from Art in the Christian Tradition, a project of the Vanderbilt Divinity Library)
Laying It All Down
RCL Reflection, 6th Sunday of Easter, Year B, May 6, 2018
This week continues the theme of love as the hallmark of Jesus followers, but we are now called to “lay it all down” for the sake of the love we first experienced in Christ Jesus. The lessons call us to an active faith model: breaking down barriers (Acts 10:47-48) and laying down our very lives for our friends (John 15:12-13).

Chosen–Not Frozen
Sixth Sunday of Easter, Year B, May 10, 2015
What’s keeping us frozen instead of really acting like we’re chosen? The call is to love, to live, and to bear fruit that lasts. We have the commands, we have the marching orders, and we are dearly beloved. We have all we need. (Photo: James Trosh, Creative Commons)
